X-rays

When I see a new patient the number of x-rays (radiographs) I take depends largely upon how their overall dental health appears. I will usually take about 10 x-ray films the first time I see someone. Any film over 2 years old is not very useful, so if you are switching dentists and don't have films less than 2 years don't bother bringing them with you. I generally take "bitewing" x-rays on my patients every year or two, again depending on my knowledge of the patient and their homecare history. If I have a patient who is in great shape and has shown that they floss every day, their gums don't bleed and their oral health is very good I may not take x-rays for 3 or 4 years.
